On-Site In-Person Worship Service Has Resumed:
We have resumed on-site, in-person worship services inside the sanctuary at our regular worship time of 10 a.m. Holy Communion will continue to be celebrated each Sunday and will conclude each worship service. Social distancing guidelines are encouraged, and masks are optional.
June 24, 2021: The Church Council met last Monday evening to debate, amend and adopt the recommendations of the elders regarding the final two phases of our post-COVID reopening. As you know, the first phase consisted of two elements: making the wearing of facial masks optional and the removing the reserved seating.
The second phase, to begin Sunday, July 4, consists of the following:
The return of lectors. Those of you who were lectors previously and wish to continue, or those who would like to be a lector, contact the church office.
Communion distribution will remain the same.
After communion, congregants will return to their seats for the benediction and a final hymn.
Congregants will exit the church through the main doors at the front of the church.
The courtyard will be open for fellowship with coffee and refreshments.
The hymnals and Bibles will return to the pew racks.
A collection plate for offerings will be on a stand in front of the organ.
The worship services will no longer be recorded or bulletins emailed to the congregation. Our profound thanks goes out to our videographers, Bill & Alexander Meyer, Drake & Shelby Rubalcava and Hannah Gransden, as well as our Music Director, Miwha Choi, for providing excellent video outreach each Sunday.
Consisting of the following, the third phase will begin Sunday, September 5:
The return to the full pre-COVID liturgy.
The return of the acolytes.
Communion distribution at the altar rail.
The return of on-campus Bible studies and confirmation.
Granted, our phased-in approach may seem too deliberative and cautious. Why not open up with one fell swoop? We could do that; that would be our right. In making policies for a congregation, however, love must always rule; rights must yield to love. There are some among us who are still uncertain and tentative about how we reopen, ever vigilant about health risks. We must take into consideration their feelings. A congregation is an organism that thrives on love and consensus borne out by loving dialogue. This is how the council has long operated and will continue to do so.
